Cleaning the bathroom is not something most people look forward to. Being shut in a small, enclosed space with harsh chemicals makes it hard to breathe and can be bad for your health.
Next time, try mixing an effective cleaner from ingredients you probably already have at home. It may still not be your favourite chore, but you get a clean bathroom, a natural product, a pleasant scent and something far gentler on your hands.
Ingredients
- ¾ rounded cup baking soda
- ¼ cup unscented liquid castile soap
- 1 tablespoon water
- 1 tablespoon vinegar
- 5–10 drops lemon oil
Method
- In a bowl, combine the baking soda and castile soap.
- Add the water and stir.
- Add the vinegar and the essential oil. The consistency should be a soft paste.
- Store in an airtight container.
Make it in small batches — this amount is enough for two to four uses. The soft scrub is excellent for removing soap scum and stains and for brightening the tub, tiles and toilet. Apply, leave for 5–10 minutes, scrub, then wipe clean with a damp cloth. It also works well on a kitchen sink or inside the fridge.
