The amount of dust that gathers in a home is sometimes a mystery. Vacuuming regularly and changing the bedding every week helps, but what about furniture and hard surfaces? Dusting cloths — unlike feather dusters, which mostly move dust from one place to another — actually trap and hold it. You can buy disposable ones, but making reusable cloths is easy, healthier (no chemicals) and far better for the environment.
Lemon essential oil gives them a fresh scent, cleans surfaces with its antibacterial properties, polishes wooden furniture and gently lifts the greasy build-up that cooking leaves behind.
Ingredients
- 2 cups distilled water
- 25 drops lemon oil
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 1 tablespoon white vinegar
Method
- Prepare a few cloths, or cut old ones into quarters.
- Combine all the ingredients in a large bowl and add the cloths.
- Soak them until there are no dry patches left.
- Wring them out gently, roll each one up tightly and store in an airtight container.
If the fabric dries out before you use it, dampen it with a little water. To reuse, simply wash the cloths and soak them again.
